Management and Entrepreneurial Counsel

The Social Venture Capital Foundation provides those nonprofits that it chooses to support with a range of management advice and entrepreneurial counsel.  The forms of management counsel available to grantee organizations include, but are not limited to, assistance in:

Clarifying Mission, Goals & Strategies

  • clarifying the mission and of your organization, and finding ways to express the mission clearly,

  • setting goals for your organization and defining how success will be measured,

  • devising, assessing, and improving innovative strategies to carry out your organization's mission and achieve its goals

  • developing the necessary competencies for success

  • anticipating and planning for the unexpected  

  • providing independent evaluation of performance and/or the adequacy of current management systems (or organizational development or staffing needs) to achieve the organization's vision and to carry out its mission 

  • ensuring continuous improvement

Incorporating, Becoming Tax Exempt

  • establishing your organization and arranging for its incorporation,

  • obtaining tax exempt status from the IRS, so that donor contributions will be tax deductible,

  • enabling y our organization to function as a project of the Social Venture Capital Foundation until it is incorporated and has its own tax exempt foundation status,

  • finding legal counsel to help with these and other tasks

Fund Raising, Record Keeping & Financial Accountability

  • establishing and maintaining systems for proper financial record keeping,

  • ensuring compliance with State regulations governing fund raising, record keeping, reporting, and other financial and non-financial requirements,

  • finding a bookkeeper to keep the books and an auditor to review them periodically

Developing Strategies for Financial Self Sufficiency

  • identifying prospective contributors and strategies for cultivating their support, 

  • going beyond  grant writing and philanthropic fund raising to develop entrepreneurial approaches for self-sufficiency,

  • helping define revenue raising strategies that promote, rather than detract from, the core mission

Network Building and Public Relations

  • introducing your organization to SVCF's Mutual Support Network,

  • building the other network, contacts, and strategic alliances that your organization needs to carry out its mission,

  • developing and carrying out an effective public relations program to enlist support for the work of your organization,

  • assistance in designing and publishing web sites, articulating the mission, goals,  and activities of, and needs being met by, your organization
